For CPAs & Attorneys
Working Alongside Your Clients’ CPAs and Attorneys
The best outcomes for a family come from its advisors working together. Here’s how we work with CPAs and estate attorneys, and how to refer a client.
With CPAs
How We Work With CPAs
Our tax planning runs on a calendar. We meet with clients every February to settle the prior year and set up the new one, and every August to prepare year-end moves while there is still time to act. Between those meetings, we plan on a multi-year basis rather than one year at a time.
Numbers before decisions
We send you the figures that matter while they can still change: year-end tax projections, Roth conversion amounts, and estimated payment figures.
A call before the big moves
Before a business sale, a large conversion, or an entity change, we’d rather talk with you directly than have you learn about it in April.
Your role stays yours
Tax preparation stays with you. Our job is planning and coordination, and we’ll ask for your input on the decisions that land on the return.
With Estate Attorneys
How We Work With Estate Attorneys
We review our clients’ estate documents alongside their full financial picture, and we work with you when something needs to change. That includes making sure beneficiary designations and account titling match what the documents intend. Drafting stays with you.
Fee-Only
No Referral Fees, in Either Direction
We’re fee-only: our only compensation is the fee our clients pay us directly. We don’t pay referral fees, and we don’t accept them. When we suggest a client work with you, or you suggest a client work with us, the only reason is fit.
Who We Serve
Who We’re a Good Fit For
We do our best work with business owners, corporate executives, and families nearing or in retirement whose financial lives have enough moving parts that coordinated planning makes a real difference. About half of our clients are in Texas, and the rest are spread across the country.
Refer a Client
Email Jim directly or call the office. Tell us a little about the situation, and we’ll reach out to your client. With your client’s permission, we’ll keep you in the loop.
